UGM Team Supported by Telkomsat Wins Second Place in the CanSat 2020 Competition

The Gadjah Mada Aerospace Team (GMAT) supported by Telkomsat, won the second place in the CanSat competition held by the American Astronautical Society (AAS). The GMAT team was able to defeat 40 other finalists and hundreds of teams from all over the world.

The announcement of the winners of the competition to be held in Virginia, United States of America because of the Covid-19 Pandemic that swept the world finally took place virtually on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. The event was hosted by Jim Way, Executive Director of the American Astronautical Society, beginning with thanks to the jury and sponsors, the event continued with a brief presentation from the keynote speaker, namely Charles Bolden, a former NASA administrator and Major General of the United States Navy, who had flown in four space missions.

GMAT Team with guidance from Mr. Catur Atmaji, S.Si., M.Cs. which consisted of Kenrick Tjandra, Indra Budi Setyawan, Muhammad Dyffa, Mario Jaya, Wildan Purnomo, Mahatma Wisesa, Nico Renaldo, Luqman Alhelmy, Muhammad Nur Ilmi, and Nafisah Hasya went through a series of rigorous selection that began from the registration and Preliminary Design Review stages and ended with the Critical Design Review stage with an assessment by a jury from the US Naval Research Laboratory.

CanSat is a type of rocket payload that is used on miniature satellites and the launch process does not pass through the atmosphere and orbit like satellite .

Telkomsat as a provider of satellite-based telecommunications services, fully supports the younger generation to innovate and contribute to the advancement of technology and science which is expected to make Indonesia famous in the international arena.
