Telkomsat Supports Telkom in Synergizing Satellite Services with BRI

Jakarta - On July 30, 2020, Telkomsat together with its parent company, PT Telkom Indonesia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) related to the collaboration of satellite-based technology services. This memorandum of understanding was signed by Telkom's Managing Director, Ririek Adriansyah and BRI's Managing Director, Sunarso and witnessed by BU-MN Minister Erick Thohir and BU-MN II Deputy Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo at BRI Building, Jakarta.

Also attending the event were Telkom's Enterprise & Business Service Director Edi Witjara, Digital Director, BRI IT & Operations Indra Utoyo, BRI Institutional & BUMN Director Agus Noersanto, and Telkomsat President Director Endi Fitri Herlianto.

BUMN Minister Erick Thohir welcomed this collaboration as a form of BUMN collaboration for Indonesia. Erick said, "The BUMN Ministry continues to encourage that fellow BUMNs to support each other in creating added value for each BUMN company in order to provide the best for customers and the entire Indonesian community".

The same thing was also expressed by the President Director of Telkom Indonesia, Ririek Adriansyah, He said, through this memorandum of understanding Telkom and BRI agreed to mutually support operational activities and provide added value to each company.

"With the capability and competence as well as experience in the satellite field owned through the Telkomsat subsidiary so far, we are ready to support the improvement of the quality and capability of BRI services to provide the best for the people of Indonesia," said Ririek.

Telkom is committed to encourage the improvement of BUMN operational excellence, one of which is by collaborating to utilize the potential of satellite-based technology services in the planning, design, production and implementation stages with mutually beneficial principles.

To support this, Telkom has entrusted its subsidiary, Telkomsat, which manages the satellite business from Hulu to Hilir. At present Telkomsat operates and manages 3 (three) satellites, namely the Telkom-2 satellite, the Telkom-3S satellite and Merah Putih satellite, and works with other operators to provide satellite-based services. All satellites are operated from the Cibinong Main Control Station which is the largest Satellite Control Center in Indonesia and is in realtime backed up by the Banjarmasin Backup Control Station.

To support this, Telkom has entrusted its subsidiary, Telkomsat, which manages the satellite business from upstream to downstream. At present Telkomsat operates and manages 3 (three) satellites, namely the Telkom-2 satellite, the Telkom-3S satellite and Merah Putih satellite, and works with other operators to provide satellite-based services. All satellites are operated from the Cibinong Main Control Station which is the largest Satellite Control Center in Indonesia and is in realtime backed up by the Banjarmasin Backup Control Station.

BRI as the BUMN Bank with the largest assets in Indonesia is committed to continue to improve its services to stakeholders by strengthening infrastructure in information technology as a business enabler, especially in the case of satellite technology utilization. And, TelkomGroup as the largest BUMN in digital telecommunications in Indonesia seeks to realize the expectations of the BU-MN Ministry in terms of strengthening BUMN digitalization. In the satellite business, BRI is the only bank that operates satellites in Indonesia while Telkom is known as the largest satellite service provider in Southeast Asia.

According to the President Director of BRI, Sunarso "Cooperation with Telkom is a strategic step for BRI in order to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness so that customers and the public can feel the quality improvement of BRI services".

The memorandum of understanding between Telkom and BRI which forms the basis for cooperation, includes the use of mutual benefit either on a lease basis, or other business models for satellite capacities owned and operated by TelkomGroup, business development planning, design, and implementation of satellite-based services and education, training, and certification for employee development in the field of satellite. Did not rule out the possibility of other cooperation.

With this BUMN synergy, Telkomsat hopes to realize satellite-based technology services that will provide the most optimal benefits for the BUMN synergy and the people of Indonesia.
