Jakarta, September 18, 2023 - Telkomsat has taken a big step in supporting the initiative of the Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan (KKP) by preparing satellite capacity that can strengthen signals for the Penangkap Ikan Terukur (e-PIT) application.

CEO of Telkomsat, Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf, expressed Telkomsat's commitment to responding to information technology challenges in the fisheries sector. "In fulfilling this commitment, Telkomsat has prepared its own satellite capacity, both High Throughput Satellite (HTS) and conventional satellites and also through partnership capacity schemes such as with Starlink," said Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf.

Lukman said that Telkomsat as part of the national telecommunications industry is trying to provide solutions to existing information technology problems, especially connectivity which is a significant obstacle in the successful implementation of e-PIT.

He also emphasized that the satellite technology-based services offered by Telkomsat would be an ideal solution for ships moving in wide waters, where cellular signals are not always available.

In addition, Telkomsat has committed to expanding telecommunications and digitalization services in maritime areas, including ports, KKP service offices, coastal business groups, and various types of vessels, including fishermen.

Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf also added that Telkomsat has designed various business models, including direct sales, rental and partnership, as well as affordable price packages for fishermen, fishing business groups, ship owners and other institutions.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for Media and Public Communication, Doni Ismanto, revealed the results of a survey conducted by the KKP at two ports, namely Cilacap, Central Java and Benoa, Bali. The survey involved 100 respondents, including ship captains, fishermen and fishing entrepreneurs.

The results of a survey conducted between June 26 and July 8 2023 showed that as many as 75 percent of the 100 respondents experienced problems using the e-PIT application, with signal problems being the main obstacle.

Doni Ismanto explained, "The dominant obstacle is the signal problem. "This signal is outside the control of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, because this signal is provided by the provider, we are only an application so we are looking for possible solutions because now technology has developed,"

The e-PIT application initiated by the KKP aims to facilitate the implementation of Post-production PNBP and measurable fishing policies for fishing vessels and fish transport vessels. This application can be downloaded for free via Playstore.

The use of the e-PIT application aims to provide operational support tools for catching or transporting fish, increasing service efficiency, facilitating data access, monitoring activities, and increasing data validity.

With Telkomsat's readiness to strengthen satellite signals, it is hoped that the e-PIT application can run more smoothly, help progress the fisheries sector in Indonesia, and support the KKP's efforts in Penangkap Ikan Terukur (e-PIT).
