Telkomsat Invites Space20 Countries to Synergize for Global Economic Recovery

Jakarta - Telkomsat with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), participated in the success of the "G20-3rd Space Economy Leaders Meeting (Space20)" which took place on 27 - 28 October 2022 in Jakarta on a hybrid basis.

The "G20-3rd Space Economy Leaders Meeting (Space20)" is an international meeting activity of G20 countries that discusses important issues in the world of space. The activity, which is a series of G20 meetings, consists of a Space Agency Session and a Space Industry Session, attended by 20 heads of space agencies at the ministerial level of G20 member countries, 5 invited countries (countries outside of the G20 members), industry leaders and international space organizations in other countries G20 members.

The concept of digital, blue, and green economy became one of the focuses of discussion. In simple terms, the concept is equal access to information as the key to the economy, a maritime-based economy, then a sustainable process.

CEO of Telkomsat Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf, who was present as a speaker at this event, said that “As an archipelagic country, satellites have a very important role in supporting connectivity in Indonesia. That's why Indonesia became an early user of this technology. Indonesia through Telkom has utilized space technology since 1976 by operating its first satellite, Palapa A1 until now the Telkom-3S Satellite and the Merah Putih Satellite.

Until now, Telkomsat is building a new satellite which will be launched in 2024. This new satellite is expected to meet sufficient bandwidth capacity, especially for 3T areas in Indonesia. It is hoped that Telkomsat can continue to consistently carry out its mission to serve the nation and state in supporting the digital economy, blue and green economy as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Lukman also hopes that this Space20 event can create synergy between countries for economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Through the Space Economy Leaders meeting, the Indonesian satellite industry hopes for a more concrete partnership in the field of space between the G20 countries and other stakeholders, including capacity provision, new value creation, and wider utilization for developing countries to recover. faster and more sustainable economy.” Lukman Said.

After the conference, the delegates had the opportunity to visit the Satellite Master Control Station Telkomsat located on JL. Raya Narogong KM 26.5 Kembang Kuning, Klapanunggal. The presence of the delegates was welcomed by CDO of Telkomsat Anggoro K. Widiawan, and  Senior Leaders of Telkomsat.

In this series of visits, Anggoro explained about the histories of Telkom's satellites, starting from the Palapa A1 Satellite to the Merah Putih Satellite which is still operating. In addition, he also explained about Telkomsat's strategic projects in the next few years.

Through this Space20 event, it is hoped that Telkomsat can increase collaboration with G20 member countries, strengthen the pillars of the space economy in the Asian region, in line with Telkomsat's vision to become a leading satellite service provider in the region.
