Jakarta, October 28, 2021 - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) through its subsidiary, PT Telkom Satellite Indonesia (Telkomsat), collaborates with Thales Alenia Space to build a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) in orbital slot 113 east longitude. The HTS development will use C-Band/Ku-Band frequencies with a wider range and reliable quality.

The signing of this cooperation contract was carried out online by CEO of Telkomsat, Endi Fitri Herlianto and President & CEO of Thales Alenia Space, Hervé Derrey from their respective locations on Thursday (28/10).  Also present to witnessed, the commissioners and senior leaders of Telkomsat as well as several representatives from Thales Alenia Space.

This signing coincided with the 93rd Sumpah Pemuda day which fell on October 28, 1928. Interpreting the same spirit, HTS 113 BT Satellite is also a unifying form of thousands of islands in Indonesia and connects more and more Indonesians, for the realization of digital sovereignty.

Thales Alenia Space collaborates with Telkomsat as the prime contractor for the design, construction, testing and delivery of satellites. Thales Alenia Space is also responsible for early orbital positioning phases (LEOP) and in-orbit tests (IoT). Thales Alenia Space will fully support ground control and Telkomsat's team of engineers during the ongoing cooperation agreement. Other support will also be provided by Thales Alenia Space throughout the satellite's lifetime.

Director Enterprise & Business Service of Telkom Indonesia, "TelkomGroup has always been committed to providing connectivity, platform, and digital services for all Indonesian people. Hts 113 BT satellite, which has a strategic position above central Indonesia, will further strengthen the digital connectivity infrastructure in Indonesia and terrestrial and marine cable infrastructure that we already have."

CEO of Telkomsat, Endi Fitri Herlianto, "HTS 113 BT satellite will serve the strengthening of capacity, quality, and digital connectivity capabilities in Indonesia, especially in remote areas and minimal terrestrial networks. Hopefully this step can support the realization of Indonesia's digital sovereignty."

President & CEO of Thales Alenia Space, Hervé Derrey, expressed his appreciation to Telkomsat for entrusting Thales Alenia Space in the creation of HTS.

"It's very fulfilling to be able to support our customer's business development after Telkom 3S. The deployment of HTS 113BT will provide to Telkomsat highly secured broadband satellite capacity over Indonesia. HTS 113BT is the fourth telecom program to serve the Indonesian satellite operators confirming that Thales Alenia Space is able to match its customers’ needs by offering a wide telecom satellites product range." Said Hervé Derrey.

Built on the Spacebus 4000B2 platform, HTS 113 BT will provide a capacity of over 32 Gbps across Indonesia. The satellite will weigh about 4 tons at launch and have a service life of up to 15 years.

The presence of HTS in the 113 BT orbit slot will complement the functions of satellites already owned by Telkomsat to serve domestic communication needs. The HTS can provide broadband internet services with a greater capacity compared to conventional satellites that currently exist in Indonesia.
