Jakarta - On Monday, 17 August 2020, Bank Indonesia officially issued IDR 75,000. This special money with the theme of 75 Years of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia was printed on a limited basis and exchange could be made at Bank Indonesia starting August 18 2020 and at designated Commercial Banks starting October 1, 2020.

As quoted on the Bank Indonesia website page, the Government in this case, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the launching of the 75th Anniversary of RI Independence Day (UPK) was not as additional liquidity for financing needs or the implementation of economic activities, but in the context of commemorating a special event or purpose, namely the 75th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

The issuance and distribution of UPK 75 years the Republic of Indonesia is also a symbol of awakening and optimism in facing challenges including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in order to continue national development towards the future of advanced Indonesia.  Therefore, the philosophical meaning contained in UPK 75 of the Republic of Indonesia is to be grateful for the 75 years of independence of the Republic of Indonesia, to reinforce diversity and to embrace Indonesia's good future.

On the same occasion, the Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, explained that the three philosophical meanings in the UPK 75 Years of the Republic of Indonesia are reflected in the complete design of money. The historical events of the proclamation of Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945 and various development achievements during the 75 years of independence illustrate the form of being grateful for independence. The achievement of this development is illustrated through the trans java toll road, the Yoesefa Bridge, and the MRT.

While on the back, this money has a philosophy of reinforcing diversity which is depicted by portraits of children dressed in traditional customs representing the Western, Central and Eastern Regions of Indonesia. The back page of money also means welcoming a glorious future in the digital era, described by Merah Putih Satellite as the communication of the Republic of Indonesia.
