Jakarta, March 7, 2024 - In an interview conducted by Sea Today Business, the Director of Development at Telkomsat, Anggoro Kurnianto Widiawan, shared insights about the launch of the latest satellite by Telkom Indonesia, named Merah Putih 2 Satellite. This warmly held event highlighted the significant step taken by Telkom Indonesia through its subsidiary, Telkomsat, in advancing internet connectivity across Indonesia.

The launch of Merah Putih 2 Satellite, utilizing SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, is part of TelkomGroup's ongoing efforts to provide equitable connectivity access throughout Indonesia. Being Telkom Indonesia's first high-capacity satellite, it is expected to significantly enhance the capacity, coverage, and capabilities of the network.

"Merah Putih 2 Satellite primarily aims to bring additional capacity, coverage, and capabilities for TelkomGroup in providing better and meaningful connectivity throughout Indonesia, not just in high population areas but also in remote regions, including at sea," revealed Anggoro.

Furthermore, he disclosed that Merah Putih 2 Satellite differs from previously launched satellites by Telkom. It is a high-capacity satellite, the first for TelkomGroup, allowing Telkom to offer greater capacity and strength for the community. Anggoro hopes, "With this satellite, we want to improve user experience tenfold compared to previous satellites, expand our coverage, and reach users in remote areas."

Regarding customer targets, Anggoro mentioned that the satellite's capacity is generally booked by VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) operators who utilize its capacity to serve their users, such as companies, the banking sector, and the mining sector. "The first phase will greatly assist VSAT operators in deploying and expanding their service coverage as well as broadening its application to users," Anggoro added.

Facing business competition, he emphasized that Merah Putih 2 Satellite are part of a highly competitive digital connectivity ecosystem. "Satellites have unique characteristics that are not sensitive to distance, which means the cost of connectivity from Jakarta to Jayapura is the same as the cost of connectivity between two buildings in Jakarta that are connected via satellite. With this unique characteristic, we believe the demand for our satellites will continue to increase."

At the end of the interview, Anggoro expressed his hopes for the operational impact of the satellite on daily life, "We hope to strengthen the national communication network and support the growth of the digital economy in Indonesia, thereby facilitating communication among the community, including those in remote areas." This shows Telkomsat's dedication to connecting all of Indonesia through the expansion of connectivity and enhancement of digital access.
